Things to know about your shoot

Wondering what a session with Capturing Joy Photography will be like? Lots of fun, that's what!! We love to laugh and have a good time while we are shooting. Here are a few other things to expect from your session:

1. The majority of our shoots are outdoors.

Our favorite lighting is natural lighting, so we like to shoot outdoors. The "magic hour" happens the hour or so before sunset, so expect to schedule around that time. We live in a beautiful area and there are lots of possibilities for locations to shoot. If you have a place in mind, let us know! If it's private property, please make sure you have permission to use it.

Some shoots call for an indoor setting like your home or church. We're ok with that too! We will probably wander around your house looking for the best natural lighting. We very rarely use flash, so areas with large windows or doors are where we will set up.

2. Our style is a mixture of lifestyle and posed photography.

We try to capture moments as they are happening- children playing together while Mom & Dad are posing, a tender moment between husband and wife, a Senior excited about his future. We will ask you questions to get you to interact with us and each other while we are shooting. We want for you to be able to relax and have fun with us. If there are any poses you would like to try, please let us know on your client information form and we will try to make them happen.

3. Our sessions typically last around an hour.

Not much can ruin a session like rushing around trying to get all of the shots you want. This is why we only do one session a day, and we take our time to make sure we get everything right. So expect to see our smiling faces for around an hour, maybe more. It might be a good idea to bring water and snacks for the kiddos, just in case.

4. We love it when you bring props to your session!

These photos are going to represent who you are at this time in your life. So bring the baby's favorite bear, your grandma's quilt, or your dad's old sweater. This is especially fun for Seniors. Please bring their team jerseys, gear, awards. Anything that represents who they are is a great addition to the session.

5. After your session…

We strive to have a sneak peak up on Facebook the evening of the shoot. This is usually 3-5 images with our watermark on them . Please feel free to share them with your friends and family. We love that! We just ask that you keep the photo as is and give us credit for it. Once your photos are finished, we will do a blog post featuring your session. Generally, you will have access to your full gallery within 1 month of your session. From there, you can choose your favorites and download/order prints through us. We use a professional lab and the prints are AMAZING!!
